Cockroaches have been around for about 350 million years! There are over 3,000 different species of cockroaches world-wide. They are good "hitchhikers", hiding in cracks and crevices of boxes shipped around the world. They can eat a wide variety of materials, including glue, dyes, and even hair! (No wonder they are so hard to get rid of!)



Here are some tips that can help you keep cockroaches out of your house or place of business:

  • Caulk cracks and crevices where possible.

  • Make sure to keep stove hoods and ovens clean. Cockroaches love to eat grease.

  • Store foods like carckers and cereals in plastic containers with tight fitting lids.

  • Carefully inspect any boxes or packages you receive for cockroaches. When in doubt, remove from your house and dispose of properly.

  • Make sure you have no leaky pipes and that surfaces in kitchen and bathroom are kept dry.

  • Get rid of clutter and vacuum frequently.

  • Take the garbage out regularly, and keep your trash can clean.

  • Keep floors swept, especially along the walls.

  • Sometimes cockroaches hide in appliances, like toasters. To get rid of the bugs, put the toaster in a plastic bag and place in the freezer overnight. This will kill any bugs inside.
